Chop × Jump · the music is the clock
asteroids
Drop in a track. Chop reads its beats, bars and drops, and Jump builds a level that lands on them.
How it works
Chop listens to your track. It finds the tempo, lines a beat grid up with the music, counts bars from the first downbeat, finds the sections (intro, build, drop, breakdown, outro), marks every kick, snare and hat, and works out the key.
Jump is the game library. The game and the music share one clock, so the level is planned backwards from the track: every rock is launched so it crosses onto the screen exactly on its kick, and the first drop arrives as a ring of rocks from every side on the one.
Your controls are instant. Everything the world does lands on the beat, and your shots and explosions play in the track's key, on its grid. Break a rock on the beat to build a combo.
Three ways to play a track. In Ride the song plays as it is. In Cut Up your controls edit the record: hold fire to beat-repeat it, and hyperspace to spin it back. In Loop Lock each four-bar phrase loops until you clear its rocks, so you play the song forward yourself.
Your track is analysed in this browser and never uploaded.
